Self-Care

Self- care is the new health care. So often this is the missing link to living a life of real vitality.

Often, we feel self-care is selfish, and so we continue to put other people’s health and wellbeing above our own, prioritising them above our own needs.

We can’t help others, if we have nothing left to give, if we continue to run on empty, who is responsible for topping us up?

Positive lifestyle changes can have a big impact on your future health span.

Forgive and heal yourself, respect and know yourself. Love and value yourself. Simply be YOU!

Self- care is a gift to you and everyone that matters in your life. Great physical health, emotional fulfilment, psychological fitness, rich relationships, and a strong sense of purpose, knowing that what you do and who you are really does matter.

Self -Care is not only important, but also necessary. We must take responsibility for our own health; only then can we truly help and support our loved ones without the fear of exhaustion and illness.

Self-care could be creating safe boundaries for you, such as the ability to say no, especially when you are tired or ill.

it could be giving yourself permission to have a break, a rest to recharge. Or it could be providing your body with all the essential nutrients it requires to function at its best. Getting a good night’s sleep is also self-care.

It could be moving that little bit more, a short walk, some simple stretches, maybe even a yoga or qigong class, swimming perhaps or a dance class. Find something you enjoy and just do it. If you hear yourself saying, “I’m just  too busy”, replace that with “I’m not making it a priority” you may just make a different decision.

Self -care is a practice, but first you must accept it is ok and then you can give yourself the permission to prioritise and take the time to practice.

Here a few self- care priorities- choose 3 this month or you may have your own favourites.

  • Do more of the little things that make you happy.

  • Avoid negative social contagion on social media.

  • Stay grateful and kind, without becoming a people pleaser.

  • Progress over perfection.

  • Be patient with yourself and others.

  • Eat real food and move more

I want to live like the sun, giving out warmth and positive energy unconditionally no matter what others think or say and rising consistently each morning to be at my very best.
